In the back, it should be slightly layered maybe an inch layers at the very most. this makes it alot easier to style and take care of. pantene pro v is the best shampoo for your hair, trust me, i have exactly the same type. my hair used to be coarse, but then i used pantene and in 6 short weeks it was the softest hair i had ever felt. Wear your hair completely straight some days just to change it up a bit. you can also curl it once in a while, for special occasions.

I like to keep my (what I call) "horse hair"-----it's thick, wavy, coarse-----in layers. It seems to thin it out quite a bit. I blow dry mine straight usually. I have found that Dove Moisturizing Shampoo and Conditioner work VERY well. I also like Herbal Essences Moisturizing (it's in a blue bottle and smells soooo good!) Shampoo and Conditioner.
